Journal Prompts for Every Mom

Journal Prompts for Every Mom

“I don’t know what to write about.”

“It’s not my thing.”

“I’ve tried it and it doesn’t work.”

“I don’t know where to start.”

Journaling isn’t easy, I know. I’ve been keeping some kind of journal since fourth grade and I still have blocks.

I share this a lot, but remember that journaling has been studied and it has shown to help reduce stress and anxiety, depression and helps cope with hard and traumatic times. *Eh hem, 2020*. It can also really help support your growth in identifying patterns, symptoms and triggers. So, if it doesn’t work, try, try again.

And when in doubt, use a prompt.

Journaling prompts can be hard because they’re usually the thing that will crack us open, and the reason we’re having trouble journaling is because we don’t want to crack open. Know what I mean??

So if you’re looking at these prompts and thinking, “Eh, they won’t work,” they probably will. Give it a try and see what comes out.

The thing that scares me the most is…

My ideal day would be…

I feel happiest when…

If I could do anything I dreamed of right now, it would be…

I was brought up to believe that mothers/women should be…

What I least expected about motherhood is…

What I love most about my life right now is…

Some tips on journaling:

  • Get a journal you love that feels really good and makes it exciting.

  • Get pens you are obsessed with.

  • If you think of random prompts or questions throughout the day, note them in your journal and use them for prompts later.

  • Set a timer so it doesn’t feel so daunting.

  • If you don’t know what to write, write that… let the pen flow.

  • Pick daily prompts for regular journaling. Here are mine: I write about the day before, anything that is stressing me, what I’m excited about for the day, gratitudes, my top three priorities for the day.

  • If an open lined journal isn’t your thing, choose a prompted journal. There are lots out there.

Journaling isn’t easy, but the “ah-ha” my academy students have are incredible. The Layered Growth Academy may be an option for you if you’re finding yourself in a space of truly wanting to expand in growth and healing. Women come in overwhelmed, anxious and lost and in five months leave with confidence, direction and a calm they never knew they could get. I have two spots open for June, they are first come first served. Take time to review the details and any academy updates including spots/availability. It’s here for you, you simply need to trust yourself, know you’re worth it and take the action.

The days are long, but the years are short. Make them count.
